To protect the screws from the impact, wear and abrasion

  • Products Used CeramAlloy CBX and CeramAlloy CL+AC
  • Status Completed

Engineers at an activated carbon plant in the southern US were in need of an abrasion resistant coating for the pushing side / cutting edge of several new horizontal screw conveyors.

The local ENECON Field Engineering Specialist along with the plant engineers and the screw conveyor manufacturer worked together to find the best preventative maintenance solution.

It was agreed that CeramAlloy CBX and CeramAlloy CL+AC would be used to protect these screws from the impact, wear and abrasion they are exposed to in the harsh environment of the carbon plant.

Before the screws were manufactured, proper tolerances in their design were calculated to compensate for the applied thickness of the CeramAlloy CBX.

The new screws were grit blasted and roughened with a hand grinder to create the optimal surface for the CeramAlloy CBX application. The screws then received two final coats of CeramAlloy CL+AC.
