Seattle Area Pump Station Repairs & Protects Containment Area With DuraQuartz, SuperBond & CHEMCLAD XC

A Seattle area pump station treats water on site with 12% sodium hypochlorite. This is a high concentration to keep the system clear of bacteria and other microorganisms throughout the long pumping distances.

The previously applied coating in the containment area was over 5 years old. There was a tank valve failure at some point within the last several years and the integrity of the coating was breached. There were also multiple failures around the perimeter of the containment area and equipment pedestals.

The station needed to prevent failures like these from happening again…so ENECON was contacted to provide a solution.

To prepare the surface they had to grind the existing coating down to bare concrete in all of the failed areas, and heavily scuff the surfaces for profile in the areas where the coating was still bonded to the concrete. The surfaces were then chemically cleaned.

Repairs to all the cracked and damaged areas of the concrete were made with ENECRETE DuraQuartz . Additionally, all corners between the walls and floor were filled and radiused with DuraQuartz to eliminate the seams and all corners. This was done in an effort to make the containment area “bathtublike” around the sides.

Finally, all surfaces were coated with ENECLAD SuperBond followed by two coats of CHEMCLAD XC. This application gave the containment area a seamless, monolithic coating for ultimate protection.
